The Visit #2
2012
Ceiba insignis fruits
Site specific commissioned for Borderline, Beit Ha'ir (old city hall), Tel Aviv
Curator: Ayelet Bitan Shlonsky
From the curator's text:
In this work, Tomer Sapir inserts "organic masses" into the historic stairway at the Tel Aviv City Hall. The "amorphous mass" is fibrous fruit that grows and develops by a natural, biochemical reaction along the staircase. Yet, Sapir attempts to curb the invader before it takes complete control, to freeze the colonies in their various states and engage in formative manipulation of the material. The squashing and compressing actions create a fragile tension between the complete unraveling and disintegration of the masses and the ability to halt the action, achieving a delicate state of equilibrium.
